what sick things i saw.

every single drumfill

Milton-Keynes

We went to milton-keynes.  I got told I looked like the lead singer of brokencyde, which made me want to jump in a river.  Played a pretty empty show and then decided we don’t really need to go back there.  Now we are back in London hanging out with friends while we have a few days break. I have to write an essay for school.  Might play a house show tomorrow.

I wanted to add a thank you to everyone in Dorking for being so rad and accommodating.   And thank you to the girls who were obsessed with our american accents for telling us we were your new favourite band.

First Show

insane.

consisted of: a ten person human pyramid breaking out

Arv and I crowd surfing a the same time while playing

and then….Sean crowd surfing with his drum set.  It was awesome.  About to drive to Milton-Keynes.

Calvin-extra balls 50 pence

Tour manager, Aisha, has left for the weekend to go a punk festival in Blackpool.  She gave me the keys to her apartment though.  After watching a bunch of wife swap USA in her living room (very unintentionally hilarious show) and being on maya doing batch renders to send to ben, i am ready to start touring.  Aisha will be back monday.

I hung out with Dave from Calvinball again tonight.  he just signed a lease to a new apartment near where I am staying in NE london and Digit Dealer might play a show wednesday at his current apartment on their last night living there.  Cool.  His current apartment is in South london at Elephant and Castle.

I’m here in London and have had a blast so far.  Aisha is not some weird person trying to steal my passport information.  She actually did book digit dealer a tour (an amazing one) and is a super rad girl.

We hung out at Old Blue Last a night ago to see violet violet’s record release show which was her boss’s birthday party.  She works at a company called the agency group, which is the company that got us our work visas.  They also represent alot of amazing bands from bad brains to bloodhound gang to passion pit.

Besides the feeling of fear whenever I cross the street here (people drive on the left side of the street), I feel a lingering sense of inadequacy. Everyone I have met is in a band with a manager with a record deal.  When I ask what they are up to I get answers like, “oh were flying to play a festival tomorrow” or “my band’s record label is paying for us to rehearse for a few days before recording.” When they ask why I am visiting I say I am in a band from Brooklyn and we are doing a tour, no one thinks anything of it.  The guys that live in the house that I am staying at are in different touring bands right now and have done multiple tours all over the US.  So yeah, its amazing but I’m in a strange place where everyone is way cooler than I will ever be.

I am sharing the small living room that I am sleeping in with this band tonight (star fucking hipsters).  they are signed to fat wreck chords.  what the fuck.  life is pretty awesome right now.

EDIT 1:  I didnt realize the guy I was hanging out with was a founding member of Leftover Crack and Choking Victim.  Im such a nub.

I about to fly to London from Berlin.  It was a great time.  Now I’m going here to crash with a person that I have only talked to on the phone twice.

Üntz Üntz

Had a really good 3/4 review.  Then we went on a trip.

I just got back from Switzerland on an architectural field trip that was light on the architecture and heavy on the relaxing.  We went to a spa designed by peter zumthor which was awesome.  We also went hiking to a glacier lake and i have never seen such beautiful scenery in my life (no homo).  I will upload pictures from that.

We also visited Zurich which is basically the most perfect city ever.  Girls look so good in that place my neck still hurts.  However, Switzerland sucks for one reason.  Its too expensive to do anything.  The cheapest meal ANYWHERE is at least $25.  I ended up skipping meals and stealing bread from hotels like aladdin.  I at least won some money playing texas hold em with some classmates and my professor.  I immediatley spent it on two beers and was back to being poor.  My one souvenir is a 10 swiss frank bill that has Corbusier on the bill! Thats awesome.  Giving that to my Dad.

Now I am back in Berlin and it feels great to be back in civilization where things are affordable.  There are some people here that I would really like to hang out with but its hard to have a 21st century relationship without a working cellphone.  Even with facebook, pretending like its the 80s is okay for a few days but then it sucks.

The next week will be just working straight for our exhibition opening at AEDES gallery.  Its starting to get press in Berlin so there will probably be a good number of people there.  I wont sleep that much this week.  Then I am going to London, which I cant wait for.  Im still looking forward to the moment that I meet arv and sean there.

I go to school here

School work and the amount of bros icing bros has progressively increased.  nothing very exciting to report from the past weekend just that my partner and I are proposing our memorial to be on a different site than that of the competition brief.  Our proposed site is Potsdamer Platz.  I biked there on Sunday and did some documentation for site studies.

On monday we had class which as per usual here lasted about 8 hours.  We just end up taking so many breaks.  After class Ben, Brian, and I challenged Jonas(my professor) and Erik (our TA) to a soccer match in the backyard of our studio.  I dont remember who won but it was close.

After the game we got Chinese food and beer.  (Imagine hearing a Chinese-German accent).  During this meal, Brian was describing his ideal Mexican girl by referencing a type of star craft alien.

My first week in berlin.

My camera doesnt shoot at night so very little super fun stuff is on here.
